Introduction

The Balatonfüred International Guitar Festival is one of the most important guitar events of Hungary, which in the recent years have featured the most prestigious guitarists, outstanding young talents and virtuosi active in the field of classical guitar music. In the past 18 years (2006-2024) guest musicians from 34 countries of the world appeared on the stages of the Balatonfüred International Guitar Festival. As organizers of the event we can proudly say that in the past couple of years the festival equalled with the entertainment of almost 1.5 million people, an atmosphere of international competition as well as the training of guitarists.
The very fact that our programmes cover a wide spectrum of genres ensures that the festival attracts a diverse target group; the common denominator of our participants and visitors is the love of music and classical guitar.
The organizer and artistic director of the international guitar festival is József Eötvös Liszt Award winning guitarist, head university teacher of the Strings Department at the Budapest Franz Liszt Academy of Music.

The festival has been organized annually since 2006 in the last week of June in the 19th century district of Balatonfüred, which provides an excellent environment for an early summer festival with its romantic atmosphere. In 2024 this already traditional event will take place on 26-29 June.

There are two successful Guinness World Records of the “world’s longest concert” connected to the Balatonfüred International Guitar Festival set in two consecutive years: in 2007 with 192 and in 2008 with 216 hours. In these ‘experiments’ within the frameworks of the invitation “Grab your guitar and join us” in 2007 almost 800 whereas in 2008 almost 1100 people entered the stage from primary school students to internationally renowned artists without any genre based restrictions.

The event pays attention to the demands and requirements of the professional and the music loving audience alike.

EVENING CONCERTS

In the evenings outstanding artists of the world of guitar give concerts that serve entertainment and learning at the same time. It is one of our aspirations that every artist should bring the concert material from his/her home country, ranging from early to contemporary music. Thus, the audience, by listening to the music of these countries will have the opportunity to have an insight into the related cultures, get to know their composers, and on the other hand, the guitarist could benefit from expanding their repertoires.

IN THE MORNINGS

In the mornings the event provides opportunity for further education in the form of master courses for professional participants. At these master courses renowned artist-professors of the world share their knowledge, experience and trade secrets with the youth and their teachers.

IN 2006-2024 THE BALATONFÜRED INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL HOSTED 2343 MUSICIANS FROM 34 COUNTRIES OF FIVE CONTINENTS IN BALATONFÜRED FROM THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES:
